If you are the parent of a child that plans on attending a four year state or private college, I'm sure you've been paying attention to the job figures and future work prospects. Not only do many of us have to worry if we will be employed tomorrow but we have to worry if our children will leave college with a degree they can use, find work in that field, and actually look forward to going into work each day.

The fact is other countries like China and India are educating their children and their goal is to have our economic lifestyle. It's unfortunate, however, that kids are taking 5.8 years to graduate from public school and can't find a job in their field of study.

I met with a family not too long ago who's daughter was in her fourth year of college and had a MET contract. The MET contract paid tuition for the four years. Unfortunately, she has changed majors and is on track for the 6 year graduation program. The parents told me their daughter sat down with the college counselor who did not have a sense or urgency to help their daughter pick a major. “They were not even encouraging her to make a decision”, they told me.
